So in the public’s imagination, the DC Comics Superhero known as The Flash is distinctly second-tier. But comic book fans (read: geeks like me) routinely mention the ol’ Scarlet Speedster as a favorite, and why not? The appeal of the bright red outfit, the jokey comic relief so well provided in the Justice League animated series and a rogue’s gallery of grotesques that perhaps only Batman can touch in terms of oddity and quantity are irrepressibly enjoyable.
Fairly well. We can say that The Flash slot isn’t quite as exciting as the Batman game or as all-around engaging as the Justice League game, we’d nevertheless give this one high marks for unpredictable bonus features and that (dare we say?) roguish appeal of the main character.
The Flash is on the higher end of the NextGen DC Comics superhero slots pay scale. 50 payline are in play, but the “Bonus Bet” tacks on 10 paylines more for a total of 60. Various increments of coinage from 1¢ to $5 may be wagered per payline.
Like more slots in this series, playing the Bonus Bet option adds the BONUS symbol to the game. On the opening splash page, the Bonus Bet is promised to “increase multiplier by 10x,” which is not quite 100% accurate.Rather, landing three of the bonus symbols on a spin launches the “Rogues Feature,” a video bonus round of three types, each named after the baddies from a looooooong list of ‘em. After spinning the reels as high-paying symbols, Capatain Cold, Gorilla Grodd and the Mirror Master come to life in plans to foil The Flash, ostensibly – but more likely to give you a fat payout.
The Captain Cold round “freezes” any reel in which The Flash appears during the free spins awarded. This reel then acts as an expanded sticky wild. The Gorilla Grodd round adds a free wild symbol to the reels after every free spin. And during the Mirror Master round, the player travels back in time (um, that’s actually the Clock King) to replay the previous four spins for better results.
With possibly the exception of the Justice League slot, The Flash clearly has the best vieo bonus round of the lot. As a certified DC Comics fanatic, I could grouse about the choice of Mirror Master over the aforementioned Clock King or, likesay, Captain Boomerang (dude was in the Suicide Squad flick, after all), but nah. Put simply, this game and the Green Lantern slot definitely earn NextGen some kudos from the superhero-loving faction of the slots-playing crowd.
Now if only something could be done about that Wonder Woman slot….
